What does La Roche d’Or stand for ?
In recognition of its heritage, the La Roche d’Or campground was named after the gold rush period, here in the Gilbert River. The campground is located at the exact spot where, at the beginning of the 20th century, many goldpanners gathered with hammers and sieves, wishing to become rich. In fact the largest ever gold nugget in Canada, the McDonald nugget, weighing 1280 grams was found right here.
You too can look for gold nuggets in the Gilbert River !
